I would appreciate opinions on the best laptop available for running revit 2010 at under $4k and/or the best desktop for under $3k. Thanks in advance.

HP Elitebooks -

8540w - 15" / 8570w - 17"

Quadro FX 880 - you can upgrade to a more serious Quadro if you like.

Configure to your liking.

They are made of great quality products, sturdy, HP applications use a lot of memory, so I'd uninstall them as soon as you get the laptop. For 1.6K base price, they're a bargain.

LSMS,

Thanks for your response. I Have already purchased an HP Pavilion DV8t and it seems to have pretty comparable specs to the one you suggested. I am mostly happy with it but I am finding that Revit crashes on it more than I like and the purchasing process was arduous as the first laptop came after about 3-4 weeks of build time and it was defective and had to be sent back only to have to wait another 3-4 weeks for build. HP's customer service was helpful but ardous also as it took probably 15-20 hours of my time dealing with everything on phone support, etc.

 Thanks again.

Yeah there are plenty of downsides to buying an HP.

As for Revit crashing, maybe you should try the standard fixes - download the most up-to-date drivers for your GFX and if that doesn't work then try turning on/off graphics acceleration in Revit.

Enjoy your new laptop.
