Hi all,

I am wondering if anyone has used Revit as preliminary cost estimating tool.

Our main problems are the elements that are not actually modelled fully, like site, services (plumbing, HVAC,...). I am using RS Means for our cost estimation.

So far we have modelled the required parking spaces and planting and I was able to do a quick cost estimate for them. But simply it does not make sense to build the full model (even loosely) at this stage for preliminary cost estimations.

Is there any way I can create an old fashioned schedule to calculate the cost of the elements that are not part of the model yet?

Thanks

Revit is a BIM package - not estimating.  Don't expect it to be an estimating program!  It has useful information but understand you have risks involved.  You need to filter the information with your knowledge of the completeness of the model.

If you want a rough estimation and i mean rough

select all instances of certain materials and then use the volume ammount and multiply iteg masonary costing XY per m3

ventilation and heating based on room areas

and use spons or something similar but I wouldnt put my faith in it's accuracy.

Used this method in my dissertation to create a project estimation cost based on a project example also included in the book on a similar project

See the link below.

It shows a couple methods that you can use for rough cost estimation.

As mentioned above...these are rough as Revit is not an estimation software...but it can do some prelim type stuff.
