Can you enclose the family or an image ?

If you have wrapped the light fixture (yellow dot in the middle of the light yellow shpere) in any material changes are it won't appear to glow, as it can't shine through a solid object

secondly it might be worth checking your render setting as only when your using 'sun and artifical' or 'atificial only' will it render with your light on

when you make a family chose generic lighting fixture (or similarly names) as a template, and it'll come with two reference evelvations and a centre line, on the second elevation line is you light fixture.Attach a picture of what you've got so far in Shading and edges for me, and ill have a look

sorry about double post, i refreshed my page

attached are images of what you want

Choose the lighting fixture family, and it appears in elevation as below

using that you can make a light

You try to create that into the project with a "In-Place" family, don't do that, do like Kardiff said, use a TEMPLATE, go to File>New>Family then in your template folder you can choose what kind of light you want...

I am having the same problem with revit 2012 with the lights. I have inserted some different light fixtures in this simple mode. The view - 3D View 2 - shows a parabolic lens fixture. However, no light is emmitting from it. Can anyone figure out why?
