I am currently working on my first major revit project.  Thus far, the model consists of several conceptual masses and some floor plates created through the masses. 

When I attempt to render, the Render button in the Render dialog box is greyed out.  I have tried to render on my own laptop, and on a computer available in my school's computer lab.

Any ideas?

I've had this problem too.  I found the solution was to check the render library was correctly pathed, and also I wasn't zoomed out too far.

Try making a 3d Camera View from level 0. and seeing if you can render that, It means your views may simply be too large for the render engine

I actually discovered my problem.  I had the project in a 12"=1'0" scale, which was convenient for zooming in and working with fine detail.  However, this level of detail meant that my rendereing would have been extremely precise, and the resulting rendering would have had an enormous file size. 

Decreased the scale, problem solved.
