I'm just curious if there's a way to scaling down/up a certain filled-in region.  The "earth" hatch that we use is kinda big and look funny.  Is there a way of modifying that family, or adding in more varieties of the fill pattern and loading it in?

 Thanks for your help.

L

Load the fill pattern at different scales under different names.  You can do this with any pattern - both drafting and model.

The problem is that I dont' know if there is a family folder for filled-in region.  Maybe I just don't know where it is.  I've looked through the Imperial Library, and through all the different folders, I just can't find it.

I select the boundary and I duplicate the type.  I look through the "fill pattern" option and I click on "edit" to edit the earth pattern.

It takes me to "MODIFY PATTERN PROPERTIES" and I don't know where to go on from there.

I think I"m suposed to import a hatch template/family, one to the customized scale of my choice -- but if I can't find the folder in the Imperial Library.

I don't know if this makes any sense.  I feel like a tool, trying to explain this.

 WWHub.  Thanks for your help.

You don't understand the filled region process and what fill patterns are so I advise you to spend some time with your HELP... You could start with these topics:

Filled Region

Changing Filled Region Properties

Fill Pattern Category

Fill Patterns

Custom Pattern Files

Creating a Custom Fill Pattern

yes.  i don't understand it, which is why i'm asking for help.

i understand that it's a family.  or am i wrong on that?  if i have to load it in, then it's a family of some sort, right?  and the family has to be somewhere in the imperial library or in my server.

i've been googling, going on different forums.  i'm feeling my way through revit, as i assume everybody else is doing too.

trust me, if there were a revit structure book for dummies, i would get my hand on it.   i'm aware of my own stupidity with this program.

anyway.  thanks for your help!

I have horses at home and I understand "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink" but in this case you are way off and you need to:

               READ THE HELP TOPICS!

Sorry for the blue - when you copy paste from the Help the blue comes too and I can't get rid of it.  If you click on them, you can read them though.

lalaindahouse,

You're on the right track, and I get what you're saying.  You do modify Pattern properties like you said, and then browse probably to your C drive, program files, Revit Structure (or Architecture), data folder.  The .pat file in there is your hatches.  Scroll through and find your Earth hatch, and then put something else in the Name: box like Earth 1/2 or something so you know what size you're getting.  Then change your import scale, and you should be good to go.  If your .pat file isnt in that location, just do a search on your C drive for .pat files from your start menu.  Hope this helps!

wow.

that was the answer i've been looking for!!  this whole entire time, i was searching for it within the imiperial library and all the other folders we have in revit.

i even went so far as to trying to decode the numeric values (in which i am 75% successful -- but no cigar).

but this is so much easier.

 thanks so much!!

If you have AutoCAD patterns that you like or typically use, you can load those as well.  Just navigate to the acad.pat file and load those the same way.  Also, the help files are really helpful for the filled stuff; but if they are not doing it for you: A great purchase I made was the Mastering Revit Structure 2009 & 2010.  It walks yoiu through many of these type of items.  This exact process in outlined in Chapter 17(2010)...good luck

i was looking for a way to get more fill patterns for revit. i'm using mep 2011, and i was stuck. after reading this i then went into autocad and if you click on the program icon in the top left, and then click options. go to the tab that is labeled Files. in there the support file search path folder had the exact path to where the patterns are stored on your system. then navigate to that location, copy the file and navigate to where the revit patterns are located, and paste them so that you wont have to keep going back and forth. once you have done that go into the properties of your fill region in revit. make a new fill pattern and import any of the autocad patterns that you like.

again thanks for the help. and i hope that this post is of help to others.
