I'm flat-out stupmed...

I have placed a vertical reveal in a wall.  The reveal only spans up about 20' of the 40' wall.  The reveal is based on a profile created using a "Profile - Reveal" family template.  The reveal is 1-1/2" deep and varies in width depending on the size of the wall panel.  The reveal places just fine; no problems.  The problem comes when placing the opening in the wall.  After i place an opening in the revealed area of the wall, the areas to the right and left of the openings are no longer "revealed." (see attached image)  the reveal also splits in half and becomes two individually adjustable areas (one above the opening and one below) which can both be adjusted by pickboxes at their tops and bottoms.  The areas to the right and left of the openings are no longer a part of the reveal and revert to being flush with the rest of the wall's face.

Can anyone help me out and tell me what i can do to corret this?  If i try to drag the reveal over the opening, i get an error message saying that the reveal "cant cut the wall."  Ive tried various editing methods in both the project and the opening family, and i am currentluy working on embedding my reveal profile into the opening family before bringing the opening into the project, currently to no avail.  Any help on this would be overwhelmingly appreciated.  I have no been able to find any other instances of this in the RC forums.

Best,

Not sure if I read your image correctly but it appears that you used a very wide "reveal" to create a different wall thickness.  I think this is a mistake.  Reveals are interupted by openings.

I would suggest you either model your wall in portions... like 8" thick ...12" thick.... 8" thick.... or use a void wall family to create these vertical depressions.

WWHub,

thanks for the reply.  the reveal doesnt encompass the entire wicth of the wall, but a lot of it.  I can see how creating different walls of differing thicknesses may help, but i dont know if i have the time to now go back and recreate since i would have a substantial amount of walls to recreat (far more than i displayed in taht graphic).

Sounds like the answer to my question is simply that the wall openings are goign to interrupt the reveals no matter what i do.  Perhaps i will void the wall  how would i go about doing this?  I know how to create a void in a component...should i just create a void extrusion component and place it on the wall accordingly?  A key aspect i need to tend to is the proper plan-section of the wall for the construction documents.  Ill give this a shot, any more advice would be greatly appreciated.

Best

G

Changing the walls are easy... just define your thinner wall - you already have the thick one.  Set your existing wall to justify on the inside face or inside core face.  Now split it at each place where the face steps back. And finally click on the thinner wall segments and change them to your new wall type... DONE

Much easier than the reveals or voids.

Thanks for the info.  I ran the voids and got the effect that i was looking for.  Maybe i can split the walls into different types if the voids become more than they are worth in the future.

Thanks again for the help.
