hi, i'm using mep 2010. why is it that when i place a light switch in a room, the $ appears in plan view but not in the ceiling plan. in the ceiling plan all i'm getting is the box in the wall.

never mind, i figured it out. i didn't realize that i had to have a lighting floor plan to show it on. i thought i could do it all in the ceiling plan. but all the ceiling plan is good for is placing the light fixtures where you want them. then the rest is done in the lighting floor plan.

Another trick....Edit he switch family (works for any family) create a reference plane that is above the approximate cut plane of the reflected ceiling plane(this can be a little tricky with face based families).  Create a model line (Invisible) that goes from the light switch reference plane up to the plane you created above.  Lock the 2 ends of the line to each plane.  Draw a dimension between the 2 planes and give it a parameter name.  This will allow you to control the length of the line.  Basically you are creating a object that will break the cut plane and which will in turn show the switch label on the reflected ceiling plan.
