I have been struggling for some time now with Revit's placement of windows in a framed wall with brick facade.  I am designing a residential structure and when I place the window in the wall, it automatically adjusts the window and jamb to the thickness of that wall, including the brick.  I want the window to be attached only to the wood frame, with a brick edge reveal in front.  Does anybody know how I can do this?

You have two possible solutions.

  1. Build your walls as two seperate elements and place your window on the correct wall then join geometry so the window cuts both walls.  (I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS)
  2. Remake your window family so you have a setback variable to place your window at the correct location.  This requires a placement pane with an istance (or type) variable.  (THIS WILL BE A GOOD LEARNING EXPERIENCE)  This is a better window type for flanged windows.

Thank you.  I will try that.  I am still new to creating custom families, so I was hoping to avoid that, but it sounds like this is my best option.
