Hi, I am fairly familiar with revit but I'm trying to build up my skills. Here is a problem I have come accross. I have a survey taken of a site, I dont have any digital files of this survey only a printed document. I scanned the document to my computer to use as a base to create my site plan. I need to know how to create the site plane in revit from a jpeg file. I have uploaded the file into revit just fine but I cannot use the pic as a base for the site as it is not adequate for this project that is to be built, I cannot figure out how to create contours for my site. I tired using the topography option on the site tab but it does not work properly for what I need. I want to copy the lines on the site I uploaded and then delete the image. I tried to just draw lines over them using the lines tool but it will not let me label the elevation of the lines so that will not work for this project. How do I create the contours and can I create a 3d site plan? If it is not possible to create a 3d site then that is ok I need these for construction documents not 3d modeling thought the 3d would not hurt at all. I also have auto cad if that helps at all, i can create normal drawings in auto cad not familiar with 3d modeling in that program. Any tutorials or any information would greatly be appreciated.

If you have the CAD file with the contours in 3D it's much easyer, in the site plan in Revit, just import the CAD file, you can choose what layers you want to import, in this case i only import the 3D contours lines (must be in one or two layers, the Majors and the Secondaries contours), then in Site tab pick in Toposurface and select "Create from import" and choose "Select import instances" like you can see in the image attached, pick in the CAD file, revit create points in that file, then finish the surface.... If you don't have the Contours in 3D you have a little trouble, you must use the "Place Points" and create point with the right elevation along the contours (extra work)....

Here's what you can do: Insert the jpeg site at the right elevation, say @ 100.00ft and input all available elevation/contours using Site toposurface command, place points (or add points RAC 2009) . You only have to pick an interval of points along the contour line, the closer the better. You'll notice that as soon at you pick the points of the next contour, lines are created in relation to previously drawn countour and contour lines begin to develop. Be sure that you enter the right elevation shown on the jpeg. It is kind of tedious but does the job. To test if it works on your case, just do the ends and the mid point of the contour lnes and develop from there. Here's a screenshot of what I have done.
