Ok, since you guys were such a help on my last dialema, I'd like to pose another interactive question.

I have modified a window to fit my needs, and in doing so created an un-placable one. While editing, it looks fine in all views as far as I can tell, but after saving will no longer place in the wall.

If someone could take a look at it to see what I screwed up.

Of course, this question has a real sub-question, which is - where is there a good tutorial for creating objects using reference planes, etc. My specific questions are in regards to...

1.  When starting from scratch: which templates to select for which type of component. There are so many, and how they can be created and how they eventually get inserted is confusing.

2.  When editing an existing component: How to tell what is connected to what? Which reference planes can be deleted / altered?

When I create a new door or window, I first establish some base reference planes. These planes I use to create the void space, in order to cut the hole in the wall you must tell the void space what to cut by selecting the wall. Create the void space first. When you create each of the objects of your window or door, you must lock them to the various reference planes, it is important to name these reference planes. With dimensions connecting these planes, and having added parameters to the dimensions which will fill in the dialogue box, you can move the planes around by changing the values for the various dimensions in the Family Types dialogue box. Hope this helps to get you on the correct path.

PS. I use the generic model form alot. For site objects and such.
