Using Revit 2010.

I'm trying to change the railing material for all my railings of a certain type so that it will display in hidden line view in my floor plan. The problem is that the surface pattern that I've assigned to the material only shows up when the railing sits at 90 degrees - the ones that are hosted to the stairs display no pattern. Any ideas on what to do?
