Has anyone else been experiencing this? After about 40 minutes or so, Revit slows on every third command or so. It generally takes about a minute or two to return. Til then I'm watching the Windows hour glass. I have 4 gig of ram and the files are not that large. I didn't have this problem before 2010.

Also, even when I first start working in a file the response from the ribbon is sluggish for some commands.

Is there a solution? Is it my hardware?

I can't stand it anymore.

Haven't realy got that problem.

Also using 4gb internal.

Only when working with (to) large files for to long the VM usage will rise above 3gb and revit quits.

Have you checed the task manager, VM size to see how much vm is being used?

Are you using 64bit windows?

Are you using the 3gb key to acces the most of your 4gb ram?

Attached are screenshots of Task Manager and basic system. I changed the ini file to 3GB switch. 32 bit. Still happening. This didn't happen in 2009.

I'm not a computerexpert but.

I had problems before (running a 32bit system)

The problem is 32bit windows can't use 4gb ram, to use all 4gb you should run 64bit.

When running 64bit 2gb will be used for windows & 2gb for other aps.

you can enable a key to give windows 1gb and 3gb for other aps.

(I'm not sure how it works on a 32bit system)

check; http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=8018966&linkID=9243099

When you decide to try this be carfull first time I tried my PC didn't startup at all and our system admin had to fix it.

Maybe someone else who has more experience/knowledge with this kind of stuf could respond?

Otherwise ask your administrator

Gebber,

Thanks for the response. Changing the 3gb switch was probably as far as I would want to go on my own.

Does any one else have comments; machine specs, 32 vs 64, similar issues, fixes?

Thanks

If you are running 32bit with hardware accelleration on your virtual memory is most likely not reallocating, you can turn off direct3D or just restart revit occassionally. I am running 64bit on a high end station and i still experience some UI lag at start up. seems to go away after i zoom in and out a few times. I highly recommend 64bit and the hardware to go with it if you have a budget for it.

Seems a little house keeping can help.

We replaced Norton AntiVirus with Windows Security Essentials (free and no more Norton Upgrade Notices).

I started to notice that every time I received an email, Revit took a short siesta. So less spam = less emails = less slow periods. So, we contacted our email hosting site and upped our spam protection.

Who would have thought the two would have such an impact on the problem. Now all that appears to be left is a little sluggishness in the ribbon. Not perfect, but workable.
