I have a noob question - I've cut a section in RS2009, and am detailing it. I can write text, dimension, etc outside of the section's crop box, but cannot draw detail lines there. When I try to draw a line outside the crop box, it locates it 'under' the crop out (so the only way I can see it is to turn off or expand the crop region). Is there some other line-drawing command I should be using instead of 'detail lines'?

No, why do you need to draw detail lines outside the crop box anyway?

I'm trying to specify the hook length of a piece of rebar. See the attached drawingas an example. I've run into it in a couple other situations too, but this is the issue at the moment. Thanks for the help.

You may check you annotation crop, but i still dont think you are going to be able to do that.

Yes, I am within the annotation crop region. Sooooo...the only way to do this is I have to create a custom annotation family, or expand the crop region and use a bunch of masking regions to hide everything else?

It is called annotation crop, not view crop. Detail lines are not annotations and even your dimension will not work if the element being dimensioned is outside the view crop. You can always use your view split and pull in just the end of your detail line.

I found this forum because I need to do the same thing. In my case, I am drawing match lines. The match lines are drawn right on the view crop lines.. but at the corners, I want them to expand into the annotation crop zone because it will look much better graphically and be more clear.
I know I can draw the lines on the sheets instead of the views and it will work, but I feel that this could lead to issues down the road if the plans get re-worked or adjusted.

If you are using a regular REVIT matchline, it can extend past the view crop window and into the annotation window area.
In the attached, you can see the view crop window, the annotation crop boundry, the matchline and the matchline view tag that works with your dependent shared views.

I am also still having this issue in Revit 2015. For my purposes I am showing a millwork detail from an elevation. Typically I would solve this in the elevation by using a masking region and moving the crop way outside my boundaries, however with details I need the detail symbol/marker (dashed box) to accurately show up on the elevation the way it will be visually seen (or "cropped") in the detail. I am using the detail lines to show the centerlines of millwork and these centerlines need to extend past my dimensions.
Like discussed, everything else shows up just not detail lines. Getting very frustrated :/
