I am currently working on a project that will require unusual phasing.  The project went from concept through CD phase and was released to the owner (not yet out for bid).  The owner has aquired additional money for the project and has since directed us to break out the job into 3 phases (adding additional work to each phase). Even though the job will be phased, each "phase" will be release on it's own as a seperate biddable package (no revisions), with the end result being a single coordinated model with all phases incorporated as an as-built package to hand off to the owner.  example:

  1. Phase 1: A101 - first floor plan boiler addition;
  2. Phase 2: A101 - first floor plan alterations;
  3. Phase 3: A101 - first floor plan complete restoration

SO....with that said, my issue is this.   Revit will not let us have any more than one sheet as the same name in a project.  How can i name the same sheet A101 in the same project for these different phases?.....am i asking the impossible....or is it so easy that it's right under my nose...??

i was thinnking about doing that originally, unfortunately; the owner has a VERY specific naming requirement that we cannot deviate from.  If i have to, i will break the project (model) up into 3 pieces, but i was trying to avoid that.

You could create a new shared parameter in the titleblock called something like "dummy sheet number", and use that in a label instead of Revit's sheet number parameter. That would let you number the sheets differently (A101.1, A101.2, A101.3), but you can fill out the new label however you want. You would have to manually coordinate the numbers (revit won't automatically fill out your label), but it should work.

You can do as 38 suggested and add a sort order to get it right in your drawing schedule but that will not keep them straight in your print order.  I would like the bid package number 1st somehow.

Looks like TKennedy has a thought worth pursuing.

OK......the solution (so far) is a combination of all suggestions (THANKS)

I have created a sheet ordering parameter to sort out the phases and display correctly in the browser as 38 suggested, but, was still unable to keep the names the same.  Sooo,  i took TKennedy's advise and created a dummy parameter and Revit is non the wiser when i have multiple sheets named the same A101.

Unfortunately, as warned the print order is a little screwed up, but i think i can live with that......that is, until i have to print all the phases seperately and then i'm sure i'll be whining again....... Winking

Thanks again....!!

I would still number the sheets P1 A101, P2 A101,P3 A101 ... then they would sort and print correctly and use your fake sheet number that you fill in.
