Christmas time is here time for a wish list.

I would like to not have to constantly scroll through lists of things to insert like walls, families, doors, windows. I would like to not have to move my mouse from my drawing location to click on a different line option. Please please give me easy key command entry for these.

I don't get why Autodesk doesn't share the best parts of Autocad and Revit.

Draw wall I would like to type in- DW>enter>wall name (I6 would be nice for interior 6" I4 for interior 4" you get the idea)

Insert Families I would like to type in- IF>enter>family name (something like IF>enter>1dbc>enter>18 for a single door 18" base cabinet)

Insert Detail Component I would like to type in- IDC>enter>component name

Insert Door I would like to type in- ID>enter>door name (26x80 for 2'-6"x8'-0" would be nice)

Insert Window I would like to type in- IW>enter>window name

Arch detail line I would like to type in- DL>enter>A3P>enter>ML  (for arch passing thru 3 points, medium lines)

Since I was talking about 2d details how about a simple hatch instead of having to make a filled region in drafting views

I think it is possible to do some of this through VSTA in revit but I am not a programer

Last but not least I would like Real time rendering or at the very least to be able to do an interior rendering without haveing to insert light fixtures. I think Revit 2008 (maybe earlier) you could do this by switching rendering an interior view as exterior.

Wow...just wow.

Some of that stuff isn't bad. Like hot keys for some options...but serious....all that typing???

How about your doors...sure you could type in all that stuff, but how would you actually call out your door styles?

I would not enjoy typing that just to get to place a door.

"ID>enter>door name (26x80 for 2'-6"x8'-0" would be nice)"

  • ID <enter> 26x80 <enter> SF = Single Flush
  • ID<enter> 26x80 <enter> 6P = 6 Panel Style & Rail
  • ID<enter> 26x80 <enter> 6P = 4 Panel Style & Rail

Too much...just too much to account for. I think that's what Hub was getting to was why bother typing in all your commands when a mouse move is so much easier.

You would have to account for all your types and that's a lot of stuff.

My two cents.

I'm not in favor of all that typing either, but I think there would be something to being able to assign shortcut keys to specific System Families etc. You wouldn't want to have a different shortcut combo for every family, but maybe for the ones you use most. And maybe keep it to a 2-4 key combo or something, but with no [enters] required.

This is the way I inserted blocks in Cad {I-(Rclick)-26d} for a 2-6 door I had 3-4 digit codes for nearly all of my blocks in Cad so there was not much typing and way faster than moving my mouse around.

The different short cut combo is because of the way Revit is currently set up with components, doors, windows, and detail components all separated. If it could be just IF for insert family and include all of them then great!

As far as type options yes another right click for a door type/style option like SF for Single Flush would work so the entire command could be

IF-(Rclick)-268-(Rclick)-SF                  = 2-6x8-0 single flush door (total of 7 characters typed)

or for a cabinet

IF-(Rclick)-1db-(Rclick)-18                  = single door 18" base cabinet (total of 7 characters typed)
