Is there a way to make the background of a rendering transparent, so that when I bring it into Photoshop I can put a sky behind it and not have to cut out the background?

Thank you

Please do a search of the forum next time.  This is a very FAQ...

Simply export to PNG or TIF and the resultant export will have an alpha channel for the background which you can turn off...

It's an FQ because it's not exactly flear how this works.  Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.  I have a transparent PNG and when I import it into an elevation - no go.

So it's not as simple as many many post say.  Transparency to revit is a binary state.  Either it's 100% transparent or it's white.  In order to get to this state - say for an underlay sketch you want to use, you need to delete the background using the erase background tool, then change the mode (assuming photoshop here) from grayscale to a DUOTONE.  Then you export to web as a PNG.  This is the only way I've found to reliably get it working.
