I received the first central file from the Architect today for a project thats starting up. I understand to open it up in Revit Structure and make sure AUDIT and DETACH FROM CENTRAL is checked. I cleaned up the file using the PURGED UNUSED. The architect's central file that was sent has today's date in the file name. The question is, It looks like I am going to get updated arch central files throughout the project each with different names? I need to keep the arch model the same name throughout the project, correct??  Each time I get a new model from the architect I should use AUDIT and DETACH FROM CENTRAL plus PURGE USED but then use the SAVE AS command and rename the file the same name throughout the project. Correct? This will save a lot of headaches?

I don't think you need to purge or audit the file, just save with the same name.

As far as the name goes, I think renaming the file is safer, but just so you know the option exists:  when you go to file > manage links, and then select the linked architect's file, you have the option to choose "Reload From...", which allows you to select a different file than the loaded one, but keeping all the other aspects (insertion point, etc) the same.  You do have to remember to manually reload and select the new file though, whereas renaming the architect's file will load the lastest one automatically.

Purging isn't required, but can significantly reduce file size, making things go faster overall (if they didn't purge it before they sent it).  I usually only audit if I'm having some kind of issue.
