In the CADclip below I demonstrate the Magic of combining Parametric Massing Families with the awesome Building Maker Tools. This is precisely what Carl Bass pointed out in his keynote speech at AU 2009.

Then just go one step further and apply some material takeoffs and / or schedules and what used to take a huge amount of time, manpower, energy (and error checking) becomes 100% accurate and INSTANT !

Remember that REVIT stands for 'Revise Instantly' and that's exactly what this CADclip demonstates.

You call it REVIT . . . . I call it MAGIC !

If you are still using vector basec CAD instead of BIM (Building Information Modeling) do yourself a BIG favour. Grab a magic wand and follow me to Hogwarts School of REVIT Wizardry !

I watched the video; great stuff!  My question to you is, does the roof have to be flat?  Can a single or double sloped roof be applied to this?  Or would the roof have to be applied seperately?

I think this would be a great tool to launch our projects with because we generally do rectangular buildings.  They are Fabricated Steel erection and I could see the value in having a mass that we could have in our drawing template that all we would need to do is change the width, length, and height.

Now another question.  You showed this mass to use curtain walls.  Forgive me for asking, because I do not use massing models for buildings, but can other wall-types be applied as well?

We generally use a wall type for our steel panels, and another for our foundation walls.  We have tried stacked walls in the past, but it didn't work for us too well.

So please respond to my two questions and I will present this idea to my drafting supervisor.

Thank you.

Combining parametric massing and the building maker tools really is powerful. I have to agree. There is a definate application for this process and I think it is the biggest under sold feature of RAC 2010.
Yes, you can use sloped roofs and yes you can use different wall, floor, roof and curtain systems types as well.
Basically, what ever you can mass, you can 'skin' with the building maker tools. The trick is getting the mass to behave parametrically, which isn't much different from any other parametric family.
I am currently developing a complete video series on this topic. I should have all the videos and corrisponding dataset completed by the end of this week and ready for the public before the Christmas break.

I don't think you can remove a post, as far as Iknow, but you can 'edit' it and basically delete all the text.
On the upper right hand corner of the post where it has the number #3. Click that little 'drop down' arrow and then click 'edit'. Once in the editing window just delete the text. Then click the 'edit post' button at the bottom left to save the edit.
So in the future you can edit your post this same way.

Thanks!  Also I look forward to seeing that tutorial.  Is there any way you could also show how to add the roof pitch parameter for a single and/or double-sloped roof?  I will keep my eye out for it!

Thanks again!
