Just started learning Revit a month ago... I have set up 1 desktop computer and 1 laptop at home, both are installed with stand-alone versions. I first set up the CENTRAL FILE on the desktop computer (which acts as server). Then I tried to open the central file on my laptop to create a LOCAL FILE, but got this message: "The Central File has been copied or moved from "C:\..." to "\\DESKTOP\C:\...". If you wish this file to remain a Central File then you must re-save the file as a Central File. To do this select "Save As" from the "File" menu and check the "Make this a Central File after save" check box (under the options button) before you save. If you do not save the file as a Central File then it will be considered a local copy file belonging to "LAPTOP"." So I click OK, the file opens with this: "The Central File C:\... cannot be found. There may be no network connection. Check out worksets to edit currently non-editable elements. Note: if otehr users have edited these items, then all your changes in this file will be lost when you reconnect to the Central File." When I open the workset the above second message repeats. Basically, the LOCAL file in the laptop cannot access the CENTRAL file on the desktop. Does anyone have similar set up in their home/office? Do I need a network version of the program to get this to work? Please advise.

If you are the only one working on the project, you don't need worksets but you can still use them. To use a central file on a network, you must be connected to that network. When you initially open a central, you will get the warning you see. This just means you need to do a save as and create your local file. You can always open the central (disconnect from central), save it as a central on your laptop and take it home and work on it. When you return, open it and save as(check the make this a central file under options) and place it back on your network.
