I have tried to search the forums for a solution to my issue but no success so far - hopefully somebody here can help me. I am exporting my sheet views from Revit Architecture 2009 to dwg for MEP and struct. consultants who do not use revit. When I export the model view (ground floor plan for example) using shared coordinates, the exported dwg file will drop correctly in terms of autocad UCS positioning. That is all fine and good. Now, the problem is that when I export a sheet view (ground floor plan again!) to dwg, I find that in the model space of the dwg file, the linework is set to "what you see is what you get". It looks exactly the same as what is displayed in paperspace (ie: the line work is cropped to show exactly the same views but without the titleblock etc...). This also means that the models are definitely not in the correct UCS positioning. I had expected to see a full uncropped model in the correct UCS position (in paperspace) just like you would in a standard dwg file but I guess the Revit export options does not work in this manner. So does anybody how to export a dwg file so that both paperspace and model space elements are in the correct UCS positioning? I know some people will ask why we are giving consultants cad sheet files rather than just the models files but it was in the contract so we just have to follow. TIA.

I'm trying to remember back along time ago when I actually had to do this. Things to check: Ensure that when exporting from sheet views you choose to "xref views on sheets". From memory I believe if you disable this option Revit binds the xref and thus will no longer have the correct UCS location/orientation. This is because if you had multiple plans on a sheet they would overlap if you didn't have this option checked. As such when Revit Binds it ignores the shared coordinates and attempts to place views so they don't overlap. Ultimately if that doesn't work you may need to do it as a 2 step process. Export sheet out, export view out, then combine manually... You would be much better off if you just had to supply the model space information at shared coordinates of the main floor plans (which is all the consultants really need at a known UCS point)... This is what we arranged on these types of projects. HTH.

Chris, Thanks for the reply. I tried what you suggested but no luck. With "xref views on sheets" disbaled or enabled the results were the same. So I guess we will need to do it manually - I was hoping to avoid the waste of time.
