I was working on a project and when I came back the next day I got this message:

"Can't edit the element until 'caduser1' resaves the element to central and relinquishes it and you Reload Latest."

I requested that the caduser resave and relinquish. When the caduser went to open the file he received the same message:

"Can't edit the element until 'caduser2' resaves the element to central and relinquishes it and you Reload Latest."

So I need caduser1 to resave and relinquish but he can't until caduser2 resaves and relinquishes but he can't until caduser1 does.

Has anyone run into this before?

We all probably have.  You have users who have saved without relinquishing.  Change your user name under options to the offending party, open the central and save reliquishing all, then close and change your name back before opening your local.

Allen, that is a possibility but often the problem is just someone poking around in the file.  If this user does have something valuable in his local, he can always open his file detached and copy paste from that to a new local.
