Hi, I am tring to put nested family (window cill - standard revit component) into window family. everything is fine in the family. volume of the wall is cut by this family. problem begins if I want to load this window into project. nested family doesn't cut anytning and what is even worse sometimes it says that it is not possible to cut .... and deletes all the instances. Isn't the whole purpouse of nested families this? can anyone help me? thanks, fero

thanks for your reply, but this looks to me like a totaly different thing. I am trying to substract the volume from the placement wall that is defined by the void in nested family.

Now I understand. Never tried that. Genirec families that are face based can be set to cut their host if it is a system family. So if you created a void in a family and set it to cut its host, then when you place the void family in your wall hosted window, does this family cut the host?

Yes, that is the problem, when placing wall based component into window family, everything works fine. voids substract volume of hosting wall( in window family editing). but once it is placed into project file it doesn't work at all. This must be some kind of bug that degrades the whole purpouse of nested families

Why don't you post your family so we can take a look.

I am not positive about this, but you might need to put a reference plane or two with some dimensions into the "window family" so the "void family" will know where it belongs when placed into the project.
