Thanks dgcad, that's great! the only question I have is where was this a month ago when I jumped into type catalogs? There are a couple things that I have found and would like to share. One, notpad works great with families with just a few, easy to manage parameters, and for quick edits. I have found it can be a big help to work in Excel, which will break each parameter into its own column. You have to save a .csv file, but if you change the extension to .txt it works fine. another thing is to put quotes around values for text parameters (Description, for instance), otherwise you will get all sorts of errors when you need to put a comma in the description.

Excellent. Yes Ecxel makes organizing columns much easier. Double quotes, double double quotes or single quotes? Can you cut and paste a sample (including header) for our readers? It's a great topic usable by all REVIT users. I have no doubt that many users have tried, failed and given up on 'type catalog' files. Here is the file I use in the video. ARCH-WINDOW-TUTORIAL.txt ,Width##length##inches,Height##length##inches,ARC Rise##length##inches,Batten Width##length##inches 4'-0"" x 4'-0"" x 6"" x 4"", 48, 48, 6, 4 4'-0"" x 3'-0"" x 6"" x 6"", 48, 36, 6, 6 4'-0"" x 2'-0"" x 6"" x 8"", 48, 24, 6, 8 4'-0"" x 4'-0"" x 12"" x 4"", 48, 48, 12, 4 4'-0"" x 3'-0"" x 12"" x 6"", 48, 36, 12, 6 4'-0"" x 2'-0"" x 12"" x 8"", 48, 24, 12, 8 4'-0"" x 4'-0"" x 18"" x 4"", 48, 48, 18, 4 4'-0"" x 3'-0"" x 18"" x 6"", 48, 36, 18, 6 4'-0"" x 2'-0"" x 18"" x 8"", 48, 24, 18, 8 3'-0"" x 5'-0"" x 12"" x 4"", 36, 60, 12, 4 3'-0"" x 6'-0"" x 12"" x 6"", 36, 72, 12, 6 3'-0"" x 7'-0"" x 12"" x 8"", 36, 84, 12, 8
