When exporting to AutoCAD, how do you get a 3d model that can be viewed level by level?

I understand the different cad export options. It seems you can “clean-up” layer export settings; pick some or all of views to export, etc...

Unless I’m missing something, view/level specific exports come into cad “flat”

and the “model” comes in 3d with “cleaned-up” layers but no way to toggle levels on and off with level specific layers.

Again, unless I’m missing something, the solution seems to be to manually parse out levels through layers once you have gotten it into cad.

What is the work around to this?  Does this seem backwards to anybody else?

Doesn't seem at all backwards because REVIT doesn't try to be CAD, it is BIM.  And obviously, CAD doesn't and can't be BIM.

If you want seperate levels for some reason in CAD, export seperate 3D scope limited revit views. and XREF them if you have to re-stack them.

Okay, I'll try to look that one up. Is that an option in the export dialog box? Or are you talking about specific views created with a scope box? Sorry, still somewhat sort of a newbie.

The "backwardsness" to me is that we have to export into cad to get it into Navis. I wish Revit would export directly into Navis. Please tell me that we are wrong and that you know of a workaround for that.
