Having a lot of trouble with a topography I entered using a existing wacky CAD file of the grading plan.  The CAD file was created with a bunch of layers at different Z values.  I tried flattening the file, purging, and turning things off I didn't need.  When I zoom extents in AutoCAD, only the area I need fills into the screen.  However, when I import it into Revit, it comes in as a little spec in this HUGE crop box...to the point where I can't see it, have to zoom to fit, zoom out a little more, window until I find the crop box, and then resize it WAY down.  In fact, if I don't activate the crop, it won't let me zoom in very far into the drawing.

So I started entering my points, came up with the topography, then started in with my foundation walls/pads.  However, when I view it in 3D, its really choppy, and you can see the topography through the walls (even on hidden line setting).  Then, when I click on a wall in the 3D view, it gives me a fatal error.

I'm running Architecture 2009 with 3.5 GB of RAM and an upgraded graphics card (don't know the specs, but I was assured it was at least what Revit required).  Any ideas what's going on?  Is it just the crappy CAD file that's screwing it up?  Please help.

Try to create (in CAD) a "Wblock" with ONLY the elements you need to your topo surface....

i ve solved this problem with a pretty mature project (pads, sidewalks, basements, everything) wich i didnt want to go back any steps.

problem was that: whenever i click any mass or wall in 3d view, revit crashes and says fatal eror. by the way some model elements seems wireframe in 3d (no shading).

solution: delete your all existing 3d views and create new camera(s) and newer hit the default {3D} again. easy huh?
