In my office we have been discussing the best way to build our walls and dimension them.  We always dimension stud to stud, and so far we have just been building our wall types omitting any finishes (gyp, tile, panels, etc.)  This way it is easy to dimension and logical for the contractors.  However, in our discussion we determined that it would be nice if in interior elevations, for example, the ACTUAL thickness of the walls were shown so as to show true interior room dimensions.  This would be most relevant when placing casework from wall to wall where if the finishes are not shown you would have to be very careful about knowing how thick your finishes are and leaving enough space to accomodate this.  Is there a way to see in plan only the studs thickness (3.5" for example) and other views or detail levels see the true wall thickness?

This is Revit - Not CAD.  Model it correctly ... stud with finishes.  You can still dimension to stud... even in coarse view!
