What is the best way to develop angular surfaces?

In Inventor and Solid Works you can creat sketch planes anywhere you want. In Revit you seem limited to vertical and horizontal placements on existing surfaces.

You can create reference planes in Revit as well.  If you are using 2010, there are all sorts of conceputal massing tools as well.

I am using revit structure 2010 and use the mass quite a bit to develop my projects.

But how do I get to make reference planes?

In either the family editor or in the main model for an in-place family, the reference plane option becomes available.
