I am doing an addition on the north side of an existing building. The north exterior wall of that existing building is Brick on CMU (with an air cavity and rigid insulation). I would like to be able to demo the brick and everything on the wall except the CMU. Then I would like to add furring and gyp board to each side of that CMU as it will be an interior wall once the addition is complete. My first question is how do I demo just this portion of the wall? I would like it to show in my demo plans as the brick being demoed (dashed) and the CMU remaining. In the new floor plan, I would like to show the existing CMU as halftone while also showing the furring and gyp board and also new doors in black (regular). My next problem - The existing wall also has windows in it. I am able to demo those windows and they are automatically infilled. In the new plan, I would like to add doors. The way I have tried to accomplish all of this is by making one CMU wall and one wall with brick and insulation and joining them to create the existing exterior wall. I then place the existing windows in that wall. Then in the next phase I demo the existing windows and brick portion of the wall (leaving the CMU to remain). Then, I add the gyp bd and furring. In order for a new door to cut thru both the existing CMU and the gyp bd walls, i join them (join geometry). But when I try to add a a door to this mess a get a 'circular refrences' error. How can I get this all to work out for me? Could it be a phasing problem? I'm happy to upload an example of what I'm attempting to do if necessary. Thanks, amy

Make sure that the walls you joined are in the same phase.

I can't. The CMU wall is existing and the Gyp bd. and furring wall is new. they can't be in the same phase. I need a workaround. Any thoughts?

You can make a wall opening or edit the wall profile of that exisiting wall. Align and lock so the new opening follows your door.

I don't think I follow. I don't want to edit the existing wall because it won't show properly in my demo plan. also, I can't place a door in the end product wall. I get a circular references error.
