heres a simple image of a store front being put in a wall.

How the hell do i get it to be 30'2" from the wall at right.....it gives a room dim across the space which is useless.

what if I wanted the wall 36' away from the wall at right? can get the option for a blue dim i can adjust. I have to draw a line and copy it over nd then move the curtain wall to it...seems a little drawn out.

anyone know a better way?

Michael

You can always drag the temporary dimensions to another location using the blue grips.  For temprary dimensions to wall faces, you can usually tab throgh these to get various locations within the wall - face of wall / core center...

If you don't get a temporary dimension where you need it, add one to a control on your element.  In this cas to the end of the storefront.  Then when you click on the element, your dimesion should turn blue and you can enter the dimension you want the element placed at.

Give it awhile and you will find it all easy.

For most doors it will be the edges of the opening and the centerline of the door.  When you get more into building families, you will better understand strong references.  You can read about those in your HELP in this topic Strong and Weak References
