look at it like that:

sharing is part of this REVIT city community. On the long run the knowlegde in REVIT ( and so in those families) will be shared. Only because you think you had such a great idea in figuring out how to do certain things doesnt mean , that others are not able to do it.....its like inventions. Sooner or later several people do this inventions and than they are becoming comon knowledge and will be shared.

look at people like David Light(http://www.blogger.com/profile/05609028351574557112)....he shares genius ideas on his blogs!

Or:

sell your families on Turbosquid or another market...and see how many people are really interested in these families.

We do develope families in our office each day and give it away without thinking about how much time it needed to develope it...that is the beginning.........and everybody in the community benefits from it.

thanks Smile

I agree to everyone who says that it is best to share your product. I am making my own families too and yet I think they will always need to improve. Intelectual property should not be over valued in this matter. Share it and Grow.

I have a couple tree models I've been instructed not to share.  Which is somewhat understandable because they're particular to our geographical region, so they'd be especially desirable to our direct competition.  And I spent hours making them.  Otherwise I'm all for sharing.  Revitcity's libraries have been a big help, and anyone downloading should realize it's only possible from the good graces and effort of someone else, and everyone should reciprocate when they can.

And manufacturers would be very, very wise to release -good- models of their products.  If it can be incorporated seamlessly and beautifully into a model it's much more likely to get specced.
