I'm on the MEP side of things.  How do I turn off architectural plumbing fixtures to only show mine without turning other arch. items off?  I've got a feeling it's somehow controlled by the VG but it's just not intuitive.

OK. So I've found that by using Visibility Graphics, going to links, customizing the display settings for the link, I can turn off the architects plumbing fixtures. If I leave a category checked, will it default to what the host view settings are? or will it only display what the link settings are set for?

In every view, you can control linked files through VG and they will stay as set unless changed manually or by applying a view template.

Speaking of view templates... you should set those up so that these views are always displayed correctly.  If all views are assigned a template, you can highlight multiples (views or sheets) in the browser an apply "default" view template and they will be set accordingly.
