In Revit 2009 I used to be able to make an in-place void form and then just "cut" it into roofs to get rid of excess material where roofs pass through each other into an interior space. Now in 2010 this just doesn't work anymore. This is causing massive problems for getting a decent looking roof from an interior view. Every time I cut a void mass into a placed roof Revit 2010 just says "there is no geometry to cut, blah blah blah...". 2010 is really pissing me off at this point. Oh such regret I am having that I "upgraded" to 2010... What gives?! Is this release so much of a mess that they even had to break this function? Please tell me I am just missing something.

When you create the "in-Place" you choose the "roof" category??? Because i don't have any problem with that...

I'm not really sure what you are saying here. When I click the in-place button it only asks for a name for the void/mass I'm going to create. After this it goes into the "model in-place mass" panel. There is no options for picking a category. I don't even see any option to select a category anywhere on any of the tabs of the ribbon. Just to be clear I am not trying to cut a vertical opening in the roof. That's no problem. I am wanting to cut horizontally to get rid of all the crappy looking interferences that the roofs make. This used to be so much easier on the 2009 release.

You are not creating a "IN-PLACE", you are in the "MASS" that's why you can't cut, in 2010 the in-place are in HOME>COMPONENT>MODEL IN-PLACE, then you can just choose the category you want "ROOF" and cut the roof like you want...

Ah, okay now I understand. I really hate 2010, it's such a clusterf*ck. Edited on: Wed, Aug 26, 2009 at 2:33:30 PM

Oh I can use it, that's not the problem. The issue is that the organization of it is just really poorly implemented. I have wasted many hours already just trying to figure out how to do many of the things I'm used to doing. I can't see any reason to have scrapped the old interface, it just worked so much smoother that it seems a bit ridiculous we even have to have this type of discussion. The biggest gripe I'm having is that it takes too long for me to find what I need. If it were organized a little better and things didn't hop around every time I do something I might not be complaining so loudly. I do appologize and don't take this as directed at you, its completely directed at the party responsible for the ribbon and all of its "glory". I bet someone will re-implement the old UI and get it working fully at some point. If not I'm guessing that enough people are bitching that Autodump themselves bring it back, at least I hope... Now you can work in the OLD UI, you know that, so if you want, if you loose productivity, use the Old UI.... Good luck....
