How can I extand the border on wall face  around the Door- window? Please check the attached JPEG. In this, you can see the elevation treatment around Windows. Please let me know how I can do it. I know, my words are not right but the picture will explain my question.

Thanks.

You have several options to do that but in the window/door of you want that "Cap", "Edit" the family(ies) and create that attached to that win/door with parameters if you want to control the tickness and so one, or you can create into a "Generic Model Wall Based" family or in a "Generic Model Face Based" fami.....  Or in a "generic Model" family and "nested" into the family of the Window.... there are several options you can use.....

Thanks Typhoon, It worked! I used "Generic Model wall based" Family.

Now, I will like to create whole family with Proper dimention and put on Revitcity so that other people can download and use it.

I will need to make couple of other families to get the same raised part around column and wall edge... I will try to make them with same method.

Thanks.

Hi Typhoon,

I have created this Family and put all paramiteres including Material. But after loading it in project, when I change the Material, it shows perfact in property but it doesn't show in view or in rendering. What should I do to see the changed material (Like door window's Material)?

I will post it soon once I confirm that my created family is good to go. So that other people don't find the same problem.

 Thanks.

Bhavi.

After "Insert" the family into project, pick in the family and check the parameter "material" if it's what you want, if not change like/for you want....

It allowed me to change the material in Family but it doesn't allow me to change the material in Project. The parameters look fine. Attached is the family file which I created. Please have a look and let me know your comments. I really appreciate it.

Thanks.

To allow the family to change the material at the project level this is my suggested method.

In the rfa Family file:

- create an new instance or type parameter named 'Frame Material' of type 'Material' organized in Materials and Finishes. Ok, done.

- Select the actual frame solid geometry > instance properties > change the 'material' to the parameter you created above Frame Material (click the little tiny square button on the far right of the 'material' property. Ok, done.

- Save > Load to project > select the family from within the project > instance properties > change the 'material' to what ever you want.

Basically you defer the solid geometry material to a parameter named Frame Material of 'type' 'material' which is then usable at the project level. This way you can create more material parameters like glass material, trim material etc...

I should also point out that there are other ways to accomplish this as well.

Awesome!!!

So, what I missed was:"change the 'material' to the parameter you created above Frame Material (click the little tiny square button on the far right of the 'material' property."

Thanks a lot for mentioning about this little tiny squere buttton. It's really very tiny but creats a really big problem...

Now it allows me to change the material in project too.

Thanks a lot...

Valuable lesson learned ! Very good. You're off and running now.

That exact same methodology is used throughtout REVIT.

The first time you need to understand this principal is when you want to build a family and change a parameter at the project level of a nested / subcomponent in a family. The nested parameter simply points to a parameter in the host family. Then it shows up at the project level.

I am an Architect & an AutoCAD person. I'm new to Revit so small thing is also big deal for me...

Thanks again.....

You must create first a capture image of the object, then when you upload you must select that image and again select the object you want upload...

As you did the second time when you uploaded your object, edit it and just add the image, you can use the one I'm posting here...
