quite simple the model you are looking at was created and imported from 3ds max and therefore cannot be edited within revit.

I see you posted this awhile ago but just in case you never got the answer that you were looking for here it is. You can change the properties of this model even though it is a DWG file. To do this you need to type in 'VV' (keyboard shortcut for 'Visibility/Graphic Overrides) once you do this you will get the 'Visibility/Graphics Overrides' dialog box. Select the 'Imported Categories' tab, after doing this select 'Object Styles...'. You will now have a new dialog box open and to the far right you will see materials, click to the right of the material and you will see a drop down box of materials for that family has in it. Simply pick and choose, now that only takes care of that family right now. The goal is to make that family editable from the within the project, as it stands right now you can only edit the materials from within the family. You will need to create 'Parameters' to allow you to do this. To do this you will need to select 'Family Types...' from the left. Once you have done that you will see a dialog box titled 'Family Types'. The only parameters that you will see are the Revit default ones. This is where you will need to 'Add' some. Select 'Add' and the 'Parameter Properties' dialog box will open. Here is where you will create your parameters. 'Family Parameter' will be selected by default, just leave it. Under 'Name' type in something (I chose 'Wood Cabinet' for the wood and 'Glass' for the glass, pretty creative huh?). Leave 'Discipline' alone and under 'Type' select 'material', under 'Group parameter under:' for materials I choose that category. This is just a way to organize your parameters there is no right or wrong way to do this. Finally I usually select 'Instance' rather than 'Type'. 'Instance' means that when you edit a family that it will change only that family. 'Type' means that when you edit a family that it will change every family within your project. With practice you will learn when to use each of them. Hope this helps, but I'm sure by now you have already figured this out. I attached the file that you posted for you to reverse engineer.
