What is a good method for putting in a column and beams for a roof hip.  We have tried putting in the column and attaching to the roof with a top offset and then putting in beams, but for some reason the beams are not "connecting" to the column.  We export the model to stadd and there are several nodes at the location.

How do you guys usually put this type framing in?

Thanks in advance.

hi

Im not sure exactly what your situation is but if you are talking about exposed hip and valley rafters (and I would love to hear anyone with more experience comment on this) I model hips and valleys in Sketchup or AutoCAD.  It may be possible to create a familiy that can handle the angles required to make hip or valley rafters, but I find that the modeling capabilites of these programs work better in this situation because often times these components must interact with several different parts of the building, ie, the roof, walls, and other rafters and beams.  I usually import my revit model into the other program and then use the geometry to help me design the the structural elements and then erase the revit model (except for a couple of lines, usually in the first floor plane....I use these lines to snap my 3d CAD component into place in the revit file.) and insert the cad model into the revit.

 hope that of some help,

 matt
