I'm trying to edit my dimensions of my windows and doors to show M.O. below the dim string.

When I double click the string, I already have a value assigned to the "below box" and am unable to edit it.

For a 7'-0" high door, 7'-0" shows up in the "below" box. For a 4'8" window, 4'-8" shows up.

The "below box" is greyed out and uneditable.

Even if I delete the string and add a new one, it still fills in automatically.

Any ideas?

You use the term string.  If you want MO for below in a dimension, you really want a seperate dimension, not a string.  Are you in 2010?

even if it's a separate stand alone dimension, it fills out by itself. It seems to be filling in with the vertical height of the component.

2009 still....

Yes you are correct!

It uses the "height" parameter and will not allow a description.  The reason is tied to dimension styles where the dimension can be set to automatically report the width and height of an object.  Not sure if anyone ever really uses this dimension type but that is what is causing the issue.  My own personal belief is to get rid of the automatic width and height option and allow the description of MO as that seems to be the more prevalant workflow.  I'm doing what I can to get this changed, no promises though.

any idea how to change it? I've never had this problem, and of course I didn't start this project so I don't know how it was set up...

It's a hardcoded Revit behaviour that users cannot change.

It would have to be changed by the developers of Revit.
