We have a phasing problem.  Our revit standards were created by a consulting firm, for some reason, they set up three phases.  EXISTING, DEMO, NEW.  I think the reasoning is that we usually have a seperate contractor doing demo.  They also foresaw a problem showing temporary construction walls (we usually show on demo plan).

I think this was a mistake, as we are having problems showing items correctly in demo views.  For instance, if a window is created during NEW CONSTRUCTON but placed in an existing wall, The demo phase will not show the opening it creates.  It is also very confusing trying to figure out phase filters for a phase called DEMO.  Oh- also, we cant graphically seperate the three consecutive phases in a single view, such as a building section.

Maybe I need to persuade my company to change this.  Can anyone shed more lite on this?  Is it worth changing the standards now?  Will changing it be too difficult?  Is it worth it to change projects already started?  Are there any reasons not to change it?

-Thank you!

standards are always changing and being updated when you first strart using Revit. if what you have is not working then you should persuade your company to change or ask your consulants to re-evaluate what they have done. Demo is really not a Phase. that is one area that has been debated about quite often. you can Demo at any Phase in a project.

i don't do a lot of phasing and will leave it to others to explain in more detail.

in your view properties you should have a option called "phase filter" depending on how you have this set and in what phases you have things as being created then you should be able to show your window. also if your view ranger is not cutting threw the new opening then it will not show the opening.

in your view grpahics you can choose how each phase looks "hidden lines, solid lines, shades, etc..."
