My structural link shows blue circles at the base of each column, a brown line at each floor level, and orange lines at each bracing member. I've tried every combo of checking and unchecking in the custom link tabs, but i can't separate the colored lines from the structural members. My structural engineer doesn't even know he's drawing them.

It sounds like the analytical lines are turned on for the structural components. Load up the visibility graphics, then for each structural component type expand the list, and then uncheck "analytical lines". The colored lines should go away then.

That doesn't work. If I uncheck the category STRUCTURAL FRAMING then both the orange line and framing dissapear. If I keep the category checked, but uncheck ALL of the sub-categories, then my framing is hidden, but the orange line remains!

Change the VG settings in the VG under the Revit links then custom settings for the VG for the link.

Here's the answer to my own question: Under Revit Links VG Overrides: - Switch to custom
- Then change linked view to none
- Then change view range to by host
Regarding "Analytical Models" ...that appears to be a category in Revit 2009 that no longer appears in version 2010...

Here is the the percise answer. Go to VG and check the box at the bottom of your categories titled show categories from all disciplines, then expand structural columns category and turn off analytical model subcategory and all those circles will go away.

quinn, that is an answer that will work for analytical lines, but linked models ofetn have other elements that need to be controlled. One such item is levels and grids in the linked file. That is why I prefer to control the linked file through the VG settings / linked files / tab and adjusting the VG of the linked file there.

100% agree, there are many ways to control the view settings thru linked VG or Host View etc... the main goal for me was to inform people of how to get access to those hidden subcategories that will give them the ability to turn off very specific objects within an element, to focus on the OP problem in this thread to find a solution for the analytical lines from structural columns.

It would be great if we could turn off linked annotations in every view by default. I know you can just not bring in that workset, but we still need the grids and levels in one coordination view just to keep track of everything.

What we do is create open up our veiw templates and have the linked file annotation category turned off by default so as we create new views they just stay off. We also created a specific view template for linked files as well that if a view already has rthem showing we just apply that view template and bam all gone. View templates are great for spedding up filtering like dimension plans especially.
