Here is the problem:

 I have imported a CAD file into Revit.  Then I did a partial explode to modify the object and changed the line types and text to Revit standards.  Now when I enter VG, under Imported Catagories, It shows the file, even though I exploded it, and none of the lines on are old layers.  Is there a way to remove this from VG?

 Thanks!

Noe

I have already tried this:

Just go to Settings: Object Styles: Annotation Objects or Imported Objects: select the subcatagory and delete it.

But it only lets me delete subcatagories (such as the individual layers) but I would like to delete the entire primary catagory of the orginal CAD file I imported.  I have also tried Purge, but it does not show up there.

The C AD file still exists in your project .

... "Mr Phelps - Your assignment, should you choose to accept it...this tape will self..." oops - showing my age & a bit off track..

You need to find the CAD file in your project and delete it.  This could take awhile ... loook in every view if you have to making sure everything is on... using crossings and filters until you find it .

revoTTools has a free plug-in which does this as a charm.

Sorry for digging this up, but this same issue still exists today even in Revit 2018!

Essentially, Revit will convert an imported DWG into a family instance, just like a normal Revit piece of furniture. To define this instance, Revit will also create for it a family type (or symbol) with the same name as the CAD file. This type is what you saw in and couldn't delete from VG > Imported Categories.

Revit could have listed this family type under Families in the Project Browser where we could have right clicked it and chosen Delete, but somehow it chose not to Sad

For now, the only way I could get rid of these is to either:

- Manually find all instances of that imported DWG in all views, delete them, then hope that a Purge Unused will remove its type for me. The hunt will be difficult in big models though. If you purge used and the type still persist, go back to the hunt ... or;

- Alternatively, use a Revit addin to do the above much quicker. I'm using DWG Explorer which even lets me directly delete DWG types from VG without caring about where its instances are!

Revit doesn't recommend importing DWGs anyway, so this issue is probably here to stay ...

Hi k065167

Whats the performance gain when the DWG are removed? Can you give us some examples?
