I am trying to make a cylindrical light fixture that has a spot light pointing down and another pointing up.  Each light needs to have separate parameters, so I can control wattage independently.

I can make the fixture and put one spot light in it.  But I can't figure out any way to add a second light source.  Copy and mirror are both greyed out when I select the light source.  Need some help here.  I am working in 2009 and started with the generic light fixture template.  Thanks.

You can do this with a nested light family.  Set the families to shared... you will have to add parameters to the host family that pass the settings through to the hosted family.

You could probably also accomplish this with a group in the project....The host light grouped with a simple light source only.

Thanks, I think I'll try grouping them first, as that sounds a bit easier to do.  I'm not really sure what a nested family is, so hopefully the first will work.  thanks much.

I figured out the nested family, and it worked great.  thanks very much.  there's just so much to learn on this program.

Well, I thought it might have been an OE problem since that is usually the case. Now that you figured that lighting out maybe you'll get back to work on the structure of the building and stop making fancy pictures. HAHA

Had to get you back there structureguy!! Smile
