Is there a way to contriol visibility of the finish surfaces of a wall? what i would like to achieve is the ability to display only the core of a wall in plan, but still be able to see the finish surfaces in elevation and 3d. The only way ive found to do it thus far is to set the detail level at med or fine and then go back over the 'finish lines' with the linework tool to make them invisible...not exactly an efficient way to do it!

Try this and see if it works for you.  In yor plan, use a medium or fine setting.  Goto VG and in the walls line (mainl line - not the sub categorries) - in the cut lines, set the override lines - color to white....only your core will be visible.

excellent!

here was the catch - (i hope im explaining this correctly) setting the cut line to white also affects how inserts are displayed, i.e. wherever theres a door, you get no line defining the opening. to fix that i went into the door family and added a symbolic line to show whenever cut in plan.

 thanks!

Found a more effective way to do it - goto view properties, visibility graphics, and edit cut line styles. from there you can define how each function of a wall is drawn when cut in plan. i left the structure as a heavy line and adjusted the other functions as needed. Of course, you need to make sure each wall type has its functions defined corrrectly.

I have a similar question ...

I tried the suggestions in this thread but the best I could get was the outside line would disappear when changed to 'white'.

I would like to see the Wall Core, only, in Course display.  Can I define the visibility of the wall layers outside the Core to accomplish this?  The attached PDF illustrates the current walls in Medium Display:

  • exterior wall - brick on stud
  • interior wall - gyp on stud.

I would like to be able to view just the core ... suggestions?
