in RAC 2008, is there a way to tag a slab's thickness and level, i've only been able to tag its type or family name...

You can not create a tag that will "read" a slab thickness. But, you can create a shared parmeter that is assigned to floors to host this value as a type parameter. Now you can create a tag to read that. Again, you can't get a tag to read a level. You can do the same as above but make an instance based parameter (I think). Levels will show up in floor schedules.
