You don't say which REVIT you are in so I will assume it's 2009 or earlier.

When you dimension, if you are dimensioning aligned, on your options bar you will see "preferred" - set that to what you want - wall faces / core / center of wall / center of core....

I’m using “Revit 2010.”And I’ve tried that, still nothing. Can you tell me what I’m doing wrong here?

Obviously your not doing that because in 2010, the process is the same.

Using the aligned dimension tool, the options bar still gives you the wall dimension choices.  Of course the key here is "ALIGNED"!  If the walls are not absolutely parallel, the dimension can not be aligned so it will not work.

So the next choice is a linear dimension.  Linear dimensions don't have the wall dimension to options.  You have to get close to something and tab to select the poit you want to dimension to / from.

I have the same kind of problem.

I am using revit 2015 and while drawing walls or annotating them, the annotation just disappears when I switch it to another object (a different one than initially shown by revit).

When I try to use the aligned annotation tool, same thing. it snaps to the wall but the annotation just does not show. I have no idea what to do to resolve that problem.

I've uploaded an image of the issue.

Have you got an annotation crop window on?

Also note that the walls will have to truely be parallel if you want a dimension between them.

Thanks for the quick reply, it seems my walls are not really parallel for whatever reason.

Side Note* if it is too much of a hassle to make align your walls, you can have the dimension tool in hand, click the first spot, from, and when you are on your wall, go to the end of it, and press the TAB button to toggle hrough what your anapping to, and pick up the endpoint of the centerlign of the wall, instead of the actual centerline, so you can bypass the "completey parallel" situation. But if your walls no completely parrallel your probabbly going to have two different dimensions from top and bottom of your walls, obviously, so its not a great solution to use everytime, but if your in a situation where that kind of precision isn't reqiured, it works to get a drawing out then and there.
