Is there a way that i can change what the dimension limits are in revit? alot of my dimensions are down to /256 of a inch. is there a way like there is in CAD to just change that where it will only dimension down to a /16 or /8 of a inch?

 Thanks,

 Allen

Properties of your dimensions under units format.  You can use the project settings (which we prefer to keep at 1/256"Winking or set up different dimension styles with rounding for different applications.

why do you recommend keeping it at /256?

What I mean was that I like to keep the project settings at 1/256 - and I even like to keep my major dimension set to 1/256.  That doesn't mean that's the tolerance I place components to.  I just don't want any "creep" to happen.

The problem doesn't usually happen when you start with REVIT because components will snap to the spacings you set up.  But if you import any CAD junk, you find that things were fudged with rounding dimensions and all of a sudden you are off 1/2" or worse somewhere.  When you see a screwball dimension with a 256 in it - somethings wrong!

Wher dimesions should be to 1/8" / 1/4" 1/2" or even 1" tolerance, I use dimension styles that do that but not for any dimension strings that have to add up!

see what can happen in the attached PDF.

It's very upsetting from the contractor's point of view, especially if they're doing clash detection.

You end up with a digital model that you don't want anyone else striking their own dimensions from.

That's not really a Revit issue. If one has dimensions set to 1/2" tolerance then don't expect to get accuracy greater than a 1/4". The overall dimension by Revit is only off 1/8". It seem self explanatory to me. The intent should be to model precisely. I can't think of a situation where I would want to round to 1/2". It's either 1/16" or 1/8" for me.

I've heard that cad gives you the option to balance the rounding out (sometimes rounding up, sometimes rounding down) so the sum of a dim string would equal the same dimension taken overall.
