I'm sure I'm overlooking something really obvious here, however the search function and a trip to Google has proved fruitless so far.

We're currently updating all of our existing Revit families so that they include the relevent British Standard symbols. These can then be toggled on/off along with regular clients own set of symbols so that users aren't constantly going back and forth switching out symbols. The switching of the different symbols works a treat, we've got a parameter set up in the family with a yes/no format, and that is attached to the visibility of attribute of a symbol, so the user can simply toggle it on and off in the element properties of that family when it has been placed in a model.

However something that I'd really love is for the symbols for things like ceiling mounted luminaires and grilles to stay locked to their original orientation, and not to rotate with the element once it's been placed in the model. There is an option in the Family Categories and Parameters settings to maintain annotation orientation, however this has no effect on the symbol.

Anyone know/have any suggestions as to how I can lock the symbols within the family to their default orientation?

Edit the family, go to settings>Family Categories and Parameters.

Once in there, there is an option that says Rotate with Component. That should be uncheck. Then your annotation will remain where you placed it.

This will keep the tags rotation the same, however, when you rotate the compents, the tag may move depending where you placed it and how you are rotating the component.

I tried the option you just said but it isn't working for me. Could you please explain when the tag is moving with the component. In your last line you said it depends on where the tag is placed and how to rotate a component but I only know one way to place a symbol.
