Hi I have a problem in chansing the dimensions of a bay window to a specific custom size. I am using a bay window that is say width = 1350 mm x length = 900 mm x depth = 600 mm I want to change this window to be width = 2607 mm x length = 900mm x depth = 600 mm. I am basically just making the window wider but wanting to keep all the other dimensions the same. The problem I have is that when I change the width to a higher dimension, the depth of the window also increases which is what I don't want. The dimensions seem to be constrained! How do I achieve my own custom measurements? Many thanks Kirk

I dont know how your family was built but if you edit it, you can dimension your window the way you want it to change and add instance parameters to those dimension that will allow you to change it to what you want. Load it back into your project and see how it works.

Yeah, I had a feeling it might be something to do with editing the family so I am just trying to see if I can do that now although I haven't much experience working with families yet. The window I am using is the Bay - Rectangular (3) which is in my Revit 2009 package. I'll have another look at it right now to see if I can make the changes. Thanks Kirk

Here is a couple pointers that might help you out. Be carefull what you dimension. Look in the status bar at the bottom to see what your are selecting because if you have multiple items on top of one another you might have to use the tab key to get what you want. What I found works great are reference plane. I lock my extrusion or sweeps ect... to my ref planes and dimension my ref planes to move. For example, you want an extrusion centered on your grid. Create one ref plane at each side of the center ref plane. Dimension your three ref plane. Use the EQ to center the ref planes you just created. Dimension the left and right ref planes. Add an instance parameter to that dimension that will let you change the dimension. Finally if you want your extrusion to follow your ref planes, they have to be locked. Use your align tool to lock them. So basicaly what we've done here is locked the extrusion to the ref planes. Constrained the ref planes to be centered with the EQ. And added an instance parameter that lets you change the dimension of your extrusion. Hope this helps you out.
