Hi.  I have a pretty involved family I'm working on, with lots of nested families.  The (current) problem I'm having is that sometimes a nested object won't constrain to my reference planes and stay locked when I flex the family.  Or sometimes it will be working just fine and then I'll change the nested ojbects' family type and it will stop working.  My question is, does Revit have some kind of limit on how much it can handle in a family?  I can't imagine I'm anywhere near that, but I don't see why else this would be happening.  I've attached it if you want to check it out.  Maybe it will work just great for you...

(Currently trying to constrain and lock Dual Canopy Hanging Kit to reference planes in Ceiling view, however, having same problem with Wall Attachement Kits in Front view.)

I haven't had a chance to check out the problem in your family but, it sounds like a problem I had a while ago. I don't rember the exact fix but it had to do with the nameing the reference plane the same in both families. It was either the Identity Data Name, or the Is Reference pull down menu in the plane's element properties. If they are not the same Revit doesn't know which plane you are trying to keep in the same place.

Yeah, that makes sense.  I'll check it out when I get the chance.  Luckily it turned out to not be a problem -I was able to work around it.  I'm finding out that controlling reference planes correctly and doing things in the right order is HUGE.

Thanks for the answer!
