I've got a section mark created to say "SIM" when a section is similar to another. The problem I'm having is that when I apply the "SIM" type to a section it does it to all sections marks with the same number. Is there a way to make it so that only the one I want to be similar will say "SIM" and the original section won't?

From the HELP - Section View Properties

Each section has type properties for section tags, callout tags, and reference labels. You can define the look of section tags and callout tags using the Settings menuView Tags command. The Reference Label parameter sets the text displayed next to the section bubble when the section is a reference section.

In other words, it is all the same view tag family, the SIM is added (as an instance) when the callout is created using the "Reference other View" from the options bar.

That's how I figured it worked and I am using the Reference Label parameter to enter "SIM", however, it's still applying to all the section marks attached to that view instead of only the one instance. Am I understanding that correctly?

When you edit your normal callout head, it should look like the attached.  Note that "SIM" is a reference as shown it the properties of that label.

Right, I understand all that, but my problem is that it's showing up on all sections of the same number when I apply "SIM" in the reference property.

For example I cut a section and label it as number 7. Then I place a section mark referencing section 7 and apply "SIM" to it. Instead of just applying it to the referenced section it also applies "SIM" to the original cut section as well. My problem is getting it just to appear on the referenced section, not the original cut one

Sorry but you don't seem to understand.  You don't apply the SIM, REVIT does.  When you place a reference callout, your are not creating a new view, just referencing one that has been created elsewhere.  When that view is placed on a sheet, all of the callouts that reference that view will have the same view and sheet number.  The only difference will be the original does not say "SIM".

Please read your H E L P and pay attention to these topics:

Yes it can.  I remove it and then manually apply the word "SIM" or "TYP" using regular text to the sections I want.  I have found this to be easier.

This is our first Revit job and we are importing old typical cad details and using the Section with "Reference other view".  Like the person above.  EVERY section we cut has the "Sim" note added.  I have looked at the help and still can't get it.  I know that when I reference a section Revit automatically adds the SIM label.  I have gone to edit the family to just say TYP because that would be fine.  But the family edit appears to look fine and there are no changes in the Revit file.  What can I do to get these changed?  From reading above it seems I must have something but I can't have SIM.

See the attached file...after placing your referenced section marker, right click on it and select view propoerties, then select edit type, then remove where it says "sim"...this will modify all sections of this type and you will not be able to add the SIM or TYP unless you do that with another type or by adding a piece of text.

Hope this helps...

Take a look below.  I assume that when I change the Reference Label location to TYP. that they would all change.  But nothing happens when I place this and hit ok....Could this be a family issue?  This is driving me crazy!

I FIGURED IT OUT!!!!!!!  Crazy enough....it is done as discussed above BUT when my Revit installed all of my family information installed "READ ONLY".  You have to go and make that a non-read only file.  WOOOOAHHH!  Way to many hours trying to figure this out!  Thanks pdoug for your help!

Sorry about that - I just checked it out and your right, the information I gave you doesn't override it.  It used to.  Maybe since 2010 something happened (i don't know).  Anyway, it's a label entity in the callout head family you section is using.  You can go to Manage>Settings>Callout Tags...this will let you know which callout head family you are using.  Then in your project browser you can find the family and edit it.  I would delete the label or edit the label and change the sample value.

dlewy,

Did you ever figure this out?  I am having the same issue.  I have multiple reference views of a drafting view cut on various plans and I need some of them to be SIM, but when I created a new Family Type and changed the ones that needed to be SIM to the new one I created, it changes all of them because they are all techniqually referencing the same view I am assuming.  If you found a solution I would appreciate it if you could share.

Thanks!
