You need to use autocad, max, or some sort of program that allows the editing of "Edges". Within max, you need the object to be a editible mesh, then selected edges, pick the edges you need to hide, and make them invisible (or hide, or something like that, i dont remember the specifics). There is also a Autoedge feature, that will use some tolerances to clean up the edges, then you can manually clean up the rest. I think you can do the same thing in autocad, the item just needs to be a mesh, not a solid. you can select the edges, and hide them in the properties window.
