trying to mask counter tops and cabinets to avoid seeing wood floor through them in plan but can't get masking regions to work.  followed the help recipe, but nothing changes.  Does anyone have a tip for a newbie???

Is this a masking region in a countertop family?  If so, make sure it is at the countertop level and the family is placed with the countertop at the right elevation.

 

I am also assuming that your floor pattern is not a hatch but is part of the floor.

Just looking at the issue a bit wider, is there a reason why you don't want the 3D geometry displayed in plan?  If not, just select all the geometry in the family and make it visible in plan views.
